Master jeweler Gustavo Paradiso demonstrates how to do a cuttlefish bone casting in this gorgeous video. Cuttlebone casting - using the backbone of the cuttlefish - has been in use for many centuries. In times of more primitive casting methods, it was used when other techniques were too slow or were incapable of delivering the refinement the jeweler desired. Today's cuttlebone casters are typically experimenting with the textures that the bone itself can contribute to the work.
