This video from Rio Grande features Ricky Frank, who discusses how to enamel using a torch. He provides information about what tools and other items are needed for torch-fired enameling, and shows two torch-firing techniques when the piece to be enameled is sitting on a trivet—on fire-brick, heating at an angle from the side of the trivet, and on top of the tripod, sitting on the fire screen, heating from below. Controlling the torch is discussed, with emphasis on how large the flame is and how close the flame is to the work piece; the flame directly contacting the enamel versus indirect heating is also shown.
