Find a Training Program

Your Jewelry Career Starts with Qualified Training

The most effective way to begin your career as a jeweler is by taking part in a professional training program. The type of program you enter will depend on your point of view, interests, time-table, goals, and budget. For example, if you are interested in a more art-based jewelry program, you may want to enroll in a university fine arts degree programm. If you are more interested in the trade aspects of being a jeweler, then a program that offers a robust production curriculum will be more your style.

The BEaJEWELER™ school directory offers more than 200 different programs for you to explore. We invite you to begin your jewelry journey here, in this directory, investigating the many training programs and discovering which ones appeal to you most.

Be a Jeweler

AN INITIATIVE OF THE MJSA EDUCATION FOUNDATION

MJSA Mentor & Apprenticeship Program

Apprenticeships were once a vital part of the jewelry industry's recruiting and training regimen, allowing businesses to transfer knowledge while also showing younger workers a recognizable career path.

The MJSA Mentor & Apprenticeship Program (MAP) aims to revive this practice. Spearheaded by the MJSA Education Foundation, the program promotes the rewards and benefits of a career designing and making jewelry.

It also provides a package of resources that professional jewelers can use to find qualified workers and train them properly.

When you choose a career in jewelry, you choose life-long learning. Becoming a master jeweler takes years — if not decades — to achieve. So a career as a jeweler tends to appeal to people who are interested in learning something challenging, and who find that kind of learning deeply rewarding. Also, technologies for fabricating, casting, and designing metal objects continue to evolve, creating opportunities to add brand new skills. The bench jewelers we know are masters of both old world craft and new world technology. One of the best ways to learn the myriad processes involved in making jewelry is to watch. Thanks to the internet, and a sharing community of jewelers that enjoys teaching others, there are many videos online that will teach you how to do just about anything involving jewelry production, repair, and design.
